    Good entry level freeride brake

looking for a good brake system for a 230 lb rider, nothing extreme but somthing that will modulate fairly well and have good stopping power.

somthing that i won't have any trouble with

Get 8" rotors for any system you choose. There are a lot of descent brakes on the market - Shimano, Hayes, Hope etc. - Depends on what you want to spend. You can get Hayes Strokers or Shimano XT's on ebay for $200 or less.

I'm around 240#, and am now running Avid Elixirs w/ 7" rotors. While I'm not consistently riding anything in a FR/DH class, they have proven so far to be easy to modulate and certainly powerful enough for the 2 or 3 minute downhill runs they've been with me on. The joy of generic avids of course is that you'll never have a problem finding pads or people who can help you out with issues (of which, I've thankfully had none with these or the Juicy 5s they replaced).
