First time disc brake owner: How do I adjust them?

I just bought a GT Avalanche 3.0 disc with Tektro Novela brakes. I know they're not top of the line but i'll make do.

The problem I am having is that the front brake pads do not hit the disc evenly. One pad is constantly rubbing, while the other has to travel a good distance in order to touch the disc.

This causes the disc to noticeably bend and warp during braking.

How do I adjust the brake so the pads hit the disc more evenly?

Thanks for any and all help.

    Sticky piston...

use a knife or something to hold the moving pad in then squeeze to get the stuck piston moving...then clean it and lube it (chain lube)...

    Dry everything...

Then center caliper with you eyeball so the rotor is dead square in the middle...your done.
