DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 mixed?

    Hello,
Is it ok to mix DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 in the same brake set? I have a bottle of DOT 4 that is running out, and I have bought DOT 5.1 to refill. Can I mix them?
    Thank you..

DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 are both glycol based and can be mixed. The system will only perform as well as the lesser fluid is able to.

My English is not very good. I understand that I can mix them, but I don't understand what you mean when say "The system will only perform as well as the lesser fluid is able to", is it that the system will do its best according to the weakest fluid, in this case DOT 4?
    Thank you.

Dot 4 and Dot 5.1 have....

different boiling point ratings. What Will means is that when you mix them the result will have a boiling point of the lower rated fluid. Brake fluid is rated using other performance indicators as well and the same will apply to them. I just used boiling point as an example.

As will siad, they are mixable with no problems.
