Does the brakes get damaged if they are kept in a box for more than a year?

I have a pair of Formula Mega brakes kept in a box for more than a year because i bought new brakes. What i want to know is if they can get damaged, like the rubber things get "dried" or something like that, affecting the correct work of the brakes.

A month ago, I took them off the box and tried to squeeze the levers to see if they were still working and one of them was stuck, i removed the oil and it was like "sperm" but it fixed the stuck problem.
So i assumed they are fine, they just need to be bleed, I think.

    What are your thoughts?

a good thorough bleed is a starting point.
