Disc pad rock back and forth? Driving me nuts

Have bb5's, the pads themselves can rock back and forth a tiny bit in the caliper. They seem to recenter when released. But when first applied I can feel a little knock as the pads move the tiny bit, even though I now it's going to happen I still makes me think my headset is loose. Do most disc brakes do this? I was planning to change them out for something else and would like to get away from this if possible.
And I checked, the back does the same thing.

    Thanks
    Randy

This is considered normal for the most part. Some brakes do it more some less.

They all do it a little bit....

Go to a bike shop and check out a few different types of brakes...mounted on the new bikes...

The shimano XTR's don't bother me.
