    disc brake mount help

Just rebuilt a 2002 Rockshox SID Race for my sons Kona Shred, replaced a Spinner Grind. The disc caliper sits to far inboard, the rotor can't be centered and therefore rubs.

Nothing was changed, using the same adapter and caliper and hardware. Its like the IS mounts on the SID race are to far inward.

Any ideas? Bad idea to grind the adapter down? need about 1mm-2mm.

I have a 2001 sid and a 2003 sid SL on my 2 xc rigs and I will say they don't give much clearance to standard hubs. In some cases I have used a wide washer on the disc side of the hub axle between the fork and hub to space it out a little. If you use one with enough face it won't affect the grip of the axle.

This was/is a very common problem with IS mount calipers. Unlike post mount they can not be adjusted horizontally. You need to use shims like these:

    Wheels Mfg.2mm Stainless rotor shims bag/20 - AEBike.com

They are 0.2mm. each so you build up as much as you need. Put them on the bolts between the caliper and mount to move the caliper outboard. Any LBS will be able to get them for you.
The trouble with having an open mind is that people will insist on trying to put things in it.
