    Different Hayes 9 question

Hey guys, yes I read the other post...

just curious, can the brake be adjusted easily or no? Im picking up a new coiler this week and i remember noticing that the levers werent as tight as the ones on my dawg (same brakes)...can that be adjusted easily or do I have to have the shop do it?

when you say they are not as tight do you mean the lever is too far in/out or when you pull on the lever your old ones engaged more instantaneous?

If in/out then what they said.

if different engagement they might need a bleed.

yea i mean that they dont engage as sonn in the pull as my dawg does...you have top pull the lever further before it does anything

Bleed may not be the issue.

Take the simple route first. Look through the window of the caliper and pump the brake a few times. How's the retraction? Came across a couple of brakes on Konas that had a TON of retraction, causing the brake to have more throw than usual. Solution? Take the wheel out of the dropout and stroke the lever full once. Insert wheel, check feel of brake. Better? Excellent! Getting better but no there yet? Repeat above steps. Be sure to only give the lever one full stroke at a time though. Measure twice, cut once, right?

Yeah, you can try to pump out the pistons a bit.

Factory bleeds are usually pretty mediocre anyways. If the lever feels spongey, definitely bleed it.

Get a bleed kit from your LBS, you can also pick up a syringe from the super market. The syringe is alot easier than the squeeze bottle but push the fluid through slowly.

Wow, $50 per brake to bleed. I need to start a business. That would work out to $100-200 an hour if you take your time.

$50 a bleed seems liek a rip off. I used a syringe like stated above instead of the squeeze bottle as i tried it with the bottle and decided it sucked and remembered i had a old syringe lying around...worked 100 times better...in all it cost me maybe 20 bucks max with fluid and the bleed kit and everything and for $20 you can do it more than once.
