    Cantilever to V???

My friend has an old mid 90's GT avalanch with canti's on it, The rear cable does a nightmare bend from under the top tube and around the seat tube to get centered to the rear cantilever and the brakes are very hard to pull even with new lubed cables.

My Question is, Would he be able to switch out canti's for V brakes using the same brake lugs on the frame?

It would eliminate the tight radius around the seat tube.

Yes, he can. He needs to either change the brake levers to V-brake compatible levers (preferred) or get the adapters that will allow him to use his cantilever levers. If you don't get the lever or adapter then the brake levers will have to move a lot and then will grab suddenly and/or the pads will be really close to the rim.
