    Best lightweight rim brakes?

For a bike I am building up, I want to get light parts and was wondering what (rim) brakes then are the best choice? It looks like the higher end Avids are lighter than XTR. Is there a tangible difference in their performance? I want to go light on this bike but not at the expense of a noticeable difference in performance.

    Cheers

Spend some time searching the archives. Also go to the weight weenies sight at www.weightweenies.starbike.com and check the listings there.

What you'll find is that there are some high dollar brakes from some Euro companies that cost an arm and a leg.

There are some older ones like Marinovatives, Hersheys, etc. Hard to find, and usually expensive.

There are also some great budget alternatives.

Vuelta Mags. Though these are impossible to find.
Koski Lites but you have to replace the pads with lighter ones, and possibly tune some bolts.

The avid mags are good lightweights, as well as the Avid Tis. The Avid Ultimates may not be as light as others but are generally considered to be some of the most powerful V brakes out there.

Don't forget that Ceramic pads and rims can add a lot to stopping power esp. in wet conditions.

    Avid + Paul

I've got Avid SD Ti brakes and Paul Love levers. Lighter and more powerful then XTR. I've got an XT shifter too, the wholel set up is not only lighter and more powerful, but also cheeper then full XTR.

The Avid Ultimate brakes and levers look totally sweet though, if you can aford them.
