BB7 compatibility with older XT shifter/BLever combos

I have a set of older XT shifter/brake combos currently running cantilever brakes. Can I run mechanical disc brakes with these? They are in good shape, just dont know if they are the right "pull" for mechanical discs (they can't be used with V brakes, right?)

    Thanks.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you need v-brake levers.

You'll need to use a travel agent with BB7 MTN brakes. Or use BB7 ROAD brakes.

    Cantilevers use a different pull.

Are you talking an older set of integrated brake levers/shifters in Shimano XT as in 2002-4 or older than that?

Without knowing the exact model year, you'll have to locate a model number.

    ST-M738 = cantilver brakes only

    ST-M739 = V-brakes only.

"Without knowing the exact model year, you'll have to locate a model number."

He already said the bike is equiped with cantilever brakes. So it stands to reason that the levers are for cantis, right?

To the OP, yeah, as XSL_WiLL noted, you'll either have to go with an adapter like the travel agent, or go with BB7 Road calipers to make em work properly.
