Haven't seen any other talk about the new Av1d SD SL v-brakes, so I thought I'd add a comment...
I upgraded to those things from a set of ancient LX v-brakes. First of all, that took almost a half pound off my ride. Sweet. More importantly, they were easy to install, and they're unbelievably strong.
The rear one visibly flexes my frame ('96 Bontrager Privateer), and the front one flexes the fork ('04 Marz MX Comp) an astonishing amount. Major *major* squeal in the front, but I chalk most of that up to an issue with one of my brake bosses (See my other post: Stiff brakes vs. Linguini fork: Who Wins? ). Still, I may need a brake booster up there because the fork is not the stiffest to begin with.
The stopping power is pretty amazing, from what I can tell riding around on Manhattan bike paths (no trial time yet). Snappy, stiff, strong enough to make me worry about going OTB sometime soon...
Oh, and did I mention they're SHINY? No pics, cuz I uh... forgot.
