Anyone running a 180mm up front and a 140mm in the back?

Thinking of trying this combination. Currently have 180 in the front and 160 in the back and find that I am locking up the rear wheel more than I'd like. FWIW, I'm running XTR M965 dual control levers with m965 calipers, m975 rotors and Shimano resin pads. Thinking a 180/140 combo might solve rear lock-up issue but haven't ever seen anyone else using it (maybe for good reason...I dunno). Thoughts?

Don't pull the lever as hard.

I don't think it is a big deal, but I would try changing your rear tire. A wider tire with bigger tread knobs will make a bigger change.

i hadn't thought about that one, sanjuro. Makes a lot of sense. I'm running a Kenda Nevegal 2.35 upfront (Stick-E) for the fine cornering and overall handling and a 2.1 Maxxis Crossmark in the back for how well it rolls. That efficiency comes at a price, I guess...traction AND stopping power, which are pretty much the same.
