Advice needed re: upgrade to Shimano XT m-785

I have a specialized FSR XC. I bought it in 2008 new. I had to buy the rim model which came without disc brakes because it was the only matte silver one in my size frame (med) that wasn't a ridiculous shade of teal or pink. I have wanted hydro disc brakes ever since I bought the bike and I am finally upgrading.

I am going to use the shimano XT m-785 brakes with the ice tech pads and I'm not sure about which rotors i should get. I am 5'9 and 190# and ride mostly in the street or parks. I live in New York City and there aren't many mountains nearby. I wanted to use a 180 up front and a 160 in the back but there is a great deal on ebay - unfortunately he only has 160 rotors for both the front and the back. The price is right: Here it is:

Ebay item number is 161087208976 sorry I couldn't get a url to work correctly

Should I piece together a set so I can have the 180 up front or will the pair of 160's be fine? Also, do the cable lengths listed 900 and 1500 sound like they will be ok? Thanks

For regular street riding you are probably going to be ok with 160 front and rear. the Shimano XT 785's are an awesome set of brakes. If your getting a great deal go with it and try. You could probably get another rotor on ebay or amazon for less then 60.00 dollars if you find the need your not getting enough stopping power. At your weight if you were riding in the woods or downhill I might lean toward the bigger rotor but around town I doubt you will need it. The cable lengths are good. Normally I see 900 and 1700 but you will have to cut them down anyway. All lengths are in millimetres so you could do a quick rough measurement for your cable routing if you have a flexible metric tape measure or convert table to check.

You're going to love those brakes!!!!!!!

160's will be strong! Don't worry about the 180. Have 160s on my surly half fat and they are my favorite brakes by a mile.

Ok, I bought the m785's with only a 160mm rear rotor. Now do I order a 180 or a 203 for the front? Since I'm starting from scratch here and the price is pretty much the same no matter which one I buy, should I just get a 203 right from the start? I'm about 190 pounds. Thanks

I'm 255lbs and I run 180/160. 203 will be overkill for you, I think. You'd even be fine with 160 up front.
