Adjusting new bb7 with new cables

I just installed Avid BB7s on my bike with new cables. I'm kind of new at this, so I'm not sure if I should adjust the cable on the brakes or just dial the brake pads in as the new cables stretch. Which should be better? Intrinsically I would think that pulling the cables tighter would be the best route.

Nope. You adjust for pad wear from the contact adjusters on the caliper body. Any noodling with barrel adjusters is purely to get the desired lever feel. Ideally, once you have that set, you will never muddle with it until you have to change cables again.

    What he said.

Adjusting the cables moves the arm, which alters the mechanical advantage at various points. Cables don't really stretch: if at some point you notice that you need to pull the levers closer to the bars due to wear, it's the pads and they should be adjusted inwards.

Set and forget the cables is good advice.

It's been said twice, I'm going to say it again, because everyone knows the third time is the charm. Only adjust the cable to change the lever feel. All pull length adjustments should be made to the pads themselves on the caliper. For what it's worth, when I put my BB7's on, I never actually adjusted the cables once it was installed correctly, just put the pads where they needed to be and it was perfect.
