New question here. 203/185mm rotors with 200/180mm adapters?

    Hey,
I am basically trying to figure out if I can swap one wheelset between two bikes. The wheels and bike #1 would have 203/185mm avid elixir brakes & rotors. The second bike would have formula brakes on with 200/180mm adapters.

I was thinking I could use chainring spacers (or similar) between the formula calipers and adapters, to create the extra 3-5mm clearance needed for the larger avid rotors.

Not ideal, but would it work?

Provided you have sufficient thread bite, into the brake adapter, I see not reason why this would not work...Blue Loctite is your friend as well.

Halve those numbers if you want to pack the calipers out, you'd only need 2.5mm for the 185mm rotor and 1.5mm for the 203 rotor.

Oh, that makes sense, and makes the change even less radical....enouraging...

FWIW, I had to use chainring spacers on my stock avid elixir XO's to keep the rotor from rubbing vertically on the inside of the caliper. Seems to work fine...
