    2014 Shimano Alivio or 2014 elixir 1?

Hello all, I am looking to upgrade my brakes to hydros, and was wondering if the shimano alivio, or elixir 1 is better. I am a very light rider (15 yrs 105lbs) and don't do anything extreme. But I also want them to be able to hold up at a bike park I am going to in a couple of weeks. Thanks for all your feedback.

I'm going to assume you are talking about the M445 brakeset. If so, you should know a few things. The Shimanos will be easier to bleed, but they don't come with rotors. You will need to supply your own. The in-line reservoir on the Elixir/DB1s is a much bigger pain to bleed.

As far as power goes, not much difference between the two properly bled systems.

If you can spring for the Deore level brakes, they come with servo-wave levers, which are a bit more forgiving of bad rotor alignment. They also have more stopping power, on account of the high power hose.

If you're going to be riding at a bike park, spring the extra $10-15 and go with the Deore M615. It has servo wave and is a step below SLX. A lot stronger than the Alivio.
