Done the White Rim in a day a few times, but this springbreak my wife and kid wanted to see it. We planned for two days with a camp at Murphy's, dead in the middle. Our trip was timed to happen right after some friends did it with vehicle support so they could drop 2 gallons of water near the camp. Lots of fun to explore and check out the sights that merely flash by when trying to finish in a day.
We did it counter-clockwise with the car parked at Shafer Canyon Overlook near the Island visitor center. This way we we would be done right after topping out on the Shafer Trail, and the 10 mile slightly uphill pavement section between the park and Mineral Bottom road would be the very beginning. Conditions were very dry with moon dust but not much unrideable deep sand. Met another semi self supported family with steel touring frames, drop bars and a BOB trailer!
One of many spectacular cliff edges next to the road. Yes, I just pee'd
The water drop, which included a surprise roll of Pringles and candy bars!
