    Cascade Lakes Overnighter

My son and I did some riding among high lakes in the central Oregon Cascades. Found a great sandy beach to camp on the edge of Summit Lake. The weather was great, mosquitoes minimal and the lake pleasantly warm. We were so grateful for this adventure.

This was my first trip on my Mukluk 3. What a great bike! Crawled up and down everything, handled great under load, was a blast to ride!

I will be putting many miles on the Muk this winter.

My son and I keep shedding gear and making better decisions about what to bring/not bring and how to carry it. A fun, ongoing learning curve.

What a coincidence! Last Monday and Tuesday I did my first bikepacking trip in the eastern cascades near where you guys did.
It was my first time riding a fat bike (new Surly Pugsley) with frame bags instead of racks n bags or BOB.
I started at Dutchman Flats sno park and rode a 48 mile trip over singletrack and jeep roads to three creek lake to camp then back to Bend on Fs370 and the Mrazek trail.
We are thinking of trying to organize a bikepacking group here in central Oregon.
Give me a shout if you guys might be interested.

I definitely want to hear more about your bikepacking group! Let me know how I can get involved.

A couple years ago, I did a big weekend trip in your area and, on one big day, rode from Dutchmen to Tumalo Falls to Mrazk and down through Phils and then to Sunriver -- what a great time that was!

Bendbent, you might also check out the Cascade Fat Bike Coalition in Facebook. This is a new effort to share info in the PNW on fat bikes, events, etc.

Nice pics! And great to see folks getting out with the kids. Did a nice overnighter with my then-12 year old last spring and it was a blast. Looking forward to more.

    Cascade Lakes Overnighter

I learned to over-estimate the amount of food to bring when a teenager is with me!

We brought A LOT of food, and it was just enough. (I wasn't expecting us to need it all...)
