Im wanting to purchase a new AM bike, and am currently looking into a 2006 SC heckler and a 2011 fuel ex9. Maybe some of you could give me some direction as I am stuck at the moment in the decision. Keep in mind I will be riding mostly XC trails. If it helps, I come from a motocross background.. and I am 5'10", 180lbs.
The Heckler has the following:
-2006 Large frame, some scuffs and scratches from normal wear
-Rockshox sektor rl solo air (less than a year old)
-rockshox monarch rt3 (less than a year old)
-stans flow rims/ saint rear hub and DT swiss QR axle
-Avid Elixir brakes (7"F/6"R)
-Answer AM 60mm stem
-Gusset XXL 450mm seatpost
-WTB Devo seat
-Continental Trail King 2.4" front/WBT UST 2.2" wolverine tires (tubeless)
-Shimano Deore crankset with bashgaurd
-Sram x5 shifters and rear derailleur/SLX front 9 spd
For this setup he is willing to let it go for $1000.
For $1150, he will switch the shifters to shimano deore, and the rear derailleur to a XT shadow plus (2x10)
The Trek Fuel Ex9 is a 2007 model, but the frame cracked and the owner was given a brand new 2011 frame from Trek.. so here it is:
-2011 Fuel Ex9 frame and shock (float rp23 i believe)
-fox float fork (has been rebuilt)
-FSA 2x9 crank
-New xt shifters
-easton havoc wheels
He will aslo include extra stuff like an FSA stem/pedals/and seatpost, XT rear derailleur, and a 2 bike yakima hitch rack(which i really need). Im not exactly sure which of these he will include at that $1200 price, but he said we could work something out.
The Heckler looks like its been ridden more, but has awesome, almost new suspension along with some great components.
The Ex9 looks brand new in the pictures.
Which bike is technically the better bike, or deal?
