Trek 3900 vs Scott Aspect 60

I'm thinking of buying my first mountain bike and need all the input and suggestions available from all the experienced mtbikers here. Anyway im currently looking at this two bikes

    Trek 3900

    Scott Aspect 60

Basically i want to start off with a decent enough bike to see if mountain biking is my thing which i can subsequently upgrade should i get more interested in it.

Components wise, which of these two bikes have better stock parts or are they equally matched for an entry level bike?

All views appreciated and thanks in advance.

The most important question is which bike do YOU like best?

I'd probably go with the Trek for two reasons: 1) it's an 8 speed vs the Scott's 7 speed, and 2) I like Treks and have owned several (I'll admit my bias)

Component wise, there isn't a lot of difference. The Trek may be slightly better because of the 8 speed drivetrain and shimano crank. I would recommend you buy the bike that feels best to YOU, the components aren't going to make much difference.

If you really get into biking and you want to upgrade, I would sell this bike and put the money towards an new better bike instead of sinking a lot money into upgrading an entry-level bike.
