TITAN PRODUCTS - Custom Titanium Frames

Just received my custom frame and ...

Needed a frame for my missus and as she prefers a touring posture, thought I would go custom ... Took most of the geometry of a XS size frame from my 'favourite' frame and just tweak it slightly ...

TITAN PRODUCTS - Custom Titanium Frames-20120620-titan-frame-forum.jpg

    04/06/2012 geometry drawing sent
    11/06/2012 deposit paid
    14/06/2012 schematic drawing received
    16/06/2012 1st revision
    19/06/2012 2nd revision
    20/06/2012 confirmation to proceed
    21/06/2012 drawing sent for production
    06/08/2012 frame completed with pictures
    13/08/2012 outstanding amount sent
    15/08/2012 frame dispatched
    20/08/2012 frame received

Correspondence has been very good. Initial impressions? Very very impressed. Initially was skeptical about the curved downtube, but due to the short effective top tube, was concerned that a fork may hit the downtube.

Just stick to standard frame designs and you cannot go wrong.

I have read from other forums of customers who wanted internal cabling on a Ti frame or frames which do not have the standard front or rear triangle? ... could be asking for problems.

    Now for the build ...

Dmitri is the face of TRITON, not Titan, two entirely different outfits. Just to clear that up.

    73mm English ...
All the components will be from my old HT ...
XT cranks and brakes with Hope rotors
XTR shifters and derailleurs (hope the missus will take care of those)
Hope Pro 2s on DT Swiss rims
    On One steel fork
    Thomson seatpost/Raceface flat bar/Hope stem
My old 2.3 Michelins Mountain Dry 2 ... pretty worn but then she will only be on bridleways and roads

Only component that she will have a choice is the saddle ... most probably a women's specific selle royal ...

The bike is all built up and has been used for sometime ... love the feeling of a relaxed geometry titanium frame, very giving and comfortable ... ableit the bike is for a smaller stature person ...

But a few qualms about the build ... 3 in fact ...

The bottom tube thread on one side has a 'flat area' without threads of about 2mm from the edge. Only after that do you have the threads ... It is ok as all standard English bottom brackets do have quite a width of threads ...

The 'slot' or gap at the top of the seat tube is not centered, but is slightly off to one side ... but again, this is me being picky.

The headtube is slightly bent due to the welding ... re photo taken from the side of the bike ...

TITAN PRODUCTS - Custom Titanium Frames-20120915-headset-gap-forum.jpg

There is a gap at the 'back' of the bearing cap as compared to the front, meaning the headtube is slightly bent backwards.

... was not able to fully load the stem cap before tightening the stem as otherwise there is a bit of rubbing between the side of the bearing cap and the side of the top bearing ... but I can still tighten it up so that the steerer do not rattle about within the top bearing, but it will moev ever so slightly if I were to hold the front brakes and push on the front handle bars with all my weight ...

Could use another headset with a different cup and top cap interface?

Great objective report. The first 2 items are no big thing but the head tube is a cause for concern. Maybe an angle set like the Cane Creek would solve the problem? Head set and BB issues with some of the bikes I've owned drove me nuts!

Otherwise your frame looks good, how about some pics of the complete bike.
