Specialized Hardrock vs. Jamis Trail X1

I'm buying a second bike to convert into an Xtracycle Freeradical (very excited!), and I'm on a budget. Both of these bikes are reasonably priced, and are sold at two different bike shops in State College. I'm trying to figure out which is better - I've googled the components but it's hard to get specific information on them. I like the shop with the Jamis better, but that's hardly a deciding factor. Any help would be appreciated - thanks!
