Pace RC305 defective weld ( Is this acceptable?? )

After weeks of surveys, lectures from my minister of home affairs ( aka Wife ) and anticipation, I've finally dumped my hard earned cash in Chain Reaction Cycles for a Anodized Sirius Black Pace RC305 hardtail. The parcel arrived on Sat, ripped the box apart and my heart shattered. Upon close inspection, there is a void in the weld connecting the seat stay to the seat tube. (Light passes through when i shine my torch through the welds.)

I'm very disappointed with the quality control of Pace Cycles and being priced near to high end for a aluminum frame, is this defect acceptable? I've since emailed both CRC and Pace and I hope that I'll get a replacement asap. I'm still waiting for their reply.

I would return the frame for sure. That kind of quality is not acceptable even on a $99 frame.

Chain Reaction agreed to replace the frame, great service. However, I'm still very disappointed with the QC of Pace Cycles. Pace build their frames in Taiwan nowadays. I wonder will the future quality of these frames deteriorate due to the cost cutting measures taken by small manufacturers to have their frames welded in Asia.

QC affects any company that contracts production. That aside, Taiwan is a very good area for production, given that the best computer products are made there. Ya should know... a lot of the semi-conductor devices originate from Taiwan. Ever heard of TSMC?

I'd be more apt to put this on Pace QC than where Pace had this made.
