New bike, or upgrade current bike?

Currently I ride a 2006 Iron Horse Warrior Comp http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/B...Comp&Type=bike The bike is in good condition, but I have progressed in my riding over the past year and it almost feels that I have out grown it. Looking around in my price range I've found a few options: Trek 6000 http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...6000&Type=bike Giant Talon 29er 1 http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...%201&Type=bike and Specialized Rockhopper Comp http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...Comp&Type=bike

Question is, is it worth buying a new bike? Are the components actually an upgrade? I was told that the Deore from 2006 is the same as the Alivio now. Is this true? I just don't know if I should upgrade my fork on the bike that I am currently riding. Any suggestions/comments are much appreciated. Thanks.

What do you feel that your bike is lacking? How much are you looking to spend on upgrades or a new bike? I wouldn't upgrade the fork unless you were planning on sticking with the frame for a while or building a new bike up from a frame. I upgraded the fork on my hardtail last year and then bought a whole new full suspension bike this year. The upgraded fork was decent while I used it but I didn't get the use out of it that I wanted to. Out of the bikes you outlined, I would look at and try the 29er (or a full suspension) to try something different as you'll still have your original bike to ride if the mood strikes you.

I can tell you from experience that the upgrade path can get expensive. It's usually better to buy a better bike.

The bikes you're looking at don't look much better than what you already have. Since you have a bike and don't have to be in any hurry, why not watch for a deal on a better used bike or wait for the year-end sales. This jenson bike looks like it would be an upgrade if you want to stick with a 26: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...t+Bike+10.aspx

I think that I will go the route of just buying a new bike. That said, I think that I will go with a 29er, and keep my current bike for something different. After looking around some more I found one that caught my eye. http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...HUNA&Type=bike I'm still a few months away from getting a new bike so another might catch my eye as well. As for now, the Kona Kahuna is leading the pack. Thanks for the suggestions!
