    LBS and fitting a stem

I'd like to get a shorter stem for my bike so how does it work if I go to my LBS?
Do they have stems on the side that are used for trial or do I just talk it over with my LBS and go with the advice they give me?

i've seen it where they have some extras laying around- in different sizes too. i've also seen it where you could put on a few different sizes there and see which you like best. or get one and test it out and bring it home- then bring it back if needed to swap it out- obviously depends on the lbs though.

Some shops have fit kits with a box full of assorted stems with different lengths and rise angles. They might charge for a "fit" session but you should be able to figure out what works for you. You might have to call around. If you have a good idea what would work Jensonusa and Pricepoint have a pretty good selection of stems.
