How to size chain rings and cassette

Anyone have advice on how to determine what size/type cassette I'd need? Same goes for middle and small chain rings in the front. Any recommendations for a good, economical chain?

Remedial questions, I know. I can ride my bike much better than I can fix it.

    Thanks for the help!

Look at the ones currently on your bike and purchase something comparable...

(I think I must be missing the point of your question.)

What cassette you need will depend on what shifters/derailleurs you have right now.
Do you have 7-8-9 speed? Chain will also depend if you have 7-8 or 9 speed.
Or do you want to change your gear inches like having more top speed or climbing power?
