Hello all,
After spending the last 15 years on a no-suspension, basic Nishiki, I'm in the market for a mountain bike that's a little more modern with a few additional frills. My budget is in the $500-600 range, so it seems I'm somewhat limited in terms of features.
I've located a 2010 Trek 4500 (26" wheels) on Craigslist that I'm considering (17" Trek 4500 Disc Hardtail Mountain Bike). The specs seems good, and I believe I can get the bike for around $500.
Tonight I went to look at new bikes and stopped in my local Trek dealer, and he suggested looking into a 29'er. Based on my budget, he said the Trek Wahoo 29'er (Wahoo - Trek Bicycle) would be a good start and most MTBs are heading to 29 now.
I'm hoping to get some input on this decision. I will be riding a mix of forest trails and roads/rail trails, so need something that can handle both. I also visited a Specialized/Cannondale dealer tonight, but to some extent felt like the Trek offered more for the money. Any opinions about 26 vs. 29 and the two bikes would be greatly appreciated. Other brand suggestions are fine too - I'll just have to find a local dealer.
Thanks,
Chris
