Help; how do I measure a frame

I have a 1982 stump jumper hard tail. How do I determine the frame size?
I need the info to post on the classified. Thanks

Frames these days are almost always measured from the centre of the BB shell to the very top of the seat tube. I can't say that Specialized was doing it that way back then in 1982. The other important measure is effective top tube length which is measured from the centre line of the head tube, horizontally to the centre line of the seat tube.

Exactly right. The OP should specify this measurement in inches.

When considering bike fit, effective top tube length is arguably a more important measurement than seat tube length. But, even so, I would suggest that the OP omit this dimension from the classified ad as it will likely prove to be more confusing than helpful. Do have it on hand for anyone that calls and asks about the bike though.
