    Giant Trance

Close to getting the base model of the Trance but want to make sure it is a good base frame to upgrade as my skills advance.

I did try to seach for info and the only comments I could find were to stay away from Specialized as they use many proprietary parts. Not that they are bad, I just wouldn't have access to all of the latest and greatest parts out there as they may not fit the frame.

Any other similar priced bikes with comparable or better frames?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mike

I believe it would be an excellent frame to upgrade as your skills advance. Giant does not use proprietary parts and from everything I've read over the years it seems to be a great frame. If I was wanting a 5 inch trail bike I would definitely be looking at the Giant and the new Treks.

Here's a couple of reviews I found. I'm not sure of the dates on all of these so the Trance could have been redesigned.

    Trance or Trance X?

Either way it's a great frame. Very "upgrade" worthy.

    anthem or trance

    i want to upgrade too

i'm sitting on a yukon fx i upgraded the parts, i been using this bike for about a year

unfortunatley i upgraded my road bikes (ocr-3 to tcr advanced) and the fox fork alone set me back around $700

is carbon the way to go? i got rid of my alum road frame since it was large and i'm medium, i want lighter mtb frame, but i am skeptical about carbon mtb, its rocky here in north jersey

Get the Trance X and enjoy. It's one of the best platforms you can upgrade. Trance X frames for 2008-2009 are the same, not sure about 2010.

My friend turned his 35-pound 2005 Trance 4 into a 27-pound All-Mountain trail slayer. The ALUXX frame is a geat platform for upgrades.

thanks, i think my yukon fx is 4 in travel, but for upgrade purposes the form is 100MM? i don't want to upgrade to another frame and need 120 or 130

that being said, i almost got a fox fork 2nd hand would have been 1/2 what i paid retail, but it was a tad short

100mm is correct . I think that you will find that 100mm travel will work fine .

I love my Trance X2. I have four mtb and without a doubt, the Trance X2 is my favorite!
