Full suspension for a tall guy?

Hi, I bought a Raleigh ht last year to start mtbiking and I (obviously) want to upgrade. Initially I wanted a full blown dh bike, but I think it'd be overkill for the trails here (no big jumps, drops, just technical singletrack). So now I'm looking for a full suspension trail bike under $2500. My problem is that I'm really tall at 62, but I hate XL frames. At least I hate my current bike, it looks really out of proportion, tiny wheels enormous frame. I also suspect that the wheels are too close together, I feel like I am riding on top of it, not "in" it. It is nervous and twitchy at high speeds.

I've already looked at the specialized camber or santa cruz heckler, but I'm afraid that I will also come to hate them because of the extra large frame. It seems like the medium size is the "perfect" frame...

So, could you recommend me bikes that are more proportional for a taller rider? I don't know if I should be looking at more wheelbase, or 29ers or what...

    thanks

I would go find a full suspension 29er to try. I don't understand what you don't like about the XL frame, is it just the appearance? If you have a big issue with sitting "on top" of bikes, then look at frames with a longer top tube. It may be the case that your body dimensions are such that you will feel a bit out of proportion on any off the shelf frame. I would find a good bike shop and see if they have different brands of bicycles to compare, each one will fit a bit differently even in the same size.
Don't you hate it when a sentence doesn't end the way you think it octopus?

If you have a Giant dealer around, give the Trance and the Anthem 29er a try.
