I just bought an XL GT i-Drive 5. I am 6' 1" and 16 years old. I am worried that the frame will be too big for now but will grow into it. II will be doing mostly All-Mountain/XC singletrack riding. If the XL frame is too big, what can i do about it (handlebar stem, etc.) and how will it affect my performance?
Ways to make the bike "smaller": shorter stem, handlebars with more sweep, pushing the saddle forward on the rails. These are bandaids however; if you have the chance to swap it for a properly sized frame I would do that. Better to have a proper fit now than hope for the proper fit 3 years from now.
Other things being equal, a shorter stem will give quicker steering.
