The Lemond Poprad uses Reynolds 853 but comes with an aluminum fork (2005's do at least). The Gunnar Crosshairs uses 853, comes with a steel fork with Reynolds 531 blades (I'm not sure if anyone even makes an 853 fork), and is a good deal sexier. The Independent Fabrications Planet Cross would be a dream bike, using full custom steel tubing (I think 853 would be an option). No experience with any of these myself, but check the Cyclocross forum at roadbikereview for more opinions and options.
The IRD is a nice cross frame and it's brother the Soma (www.somafab.com) and there is Gunnar as well, Go to www.roadbikereview.com and go to their cross discussion forum and do a search under steel frames.
