Check out the new Cheeta build!

Doing a little bike porn here. So here's the latest pile of parts. Kenda tires are crap so I ordered some Vredestein's. I get to break in the new Brooks saddle as I'm giving my old broken-in one to my wife.

    • New circa 2002 Cheeta Slalom frame
      '12 Shimano M778 XT UST wheelset 15qr
'11 Magura Marta SL Mags with Venti rotor front/generic back
      Sette bar and seatpost
Brooks saddle new (*shudders with fright at prospect of breaking in another brooks..)
1x8 with short cage x.9 and twist shift. 11-28/32T
      Hussefelt crank and BB
      Canfield crampon I pedals
      Kore 35mm stem
      PIG headset
      Fox 831 fork
Vredestein Panther Xtreme 2.20 tires (soon)
      Stans of course

Posting this up so people can throw me suggestions or praise as well as having a written record of my build in case it's stolen! Will be testing at the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte next week.

Thanks! I've been riding on Brooks for years now and they just fit my ass the best. I like to stick to what works best for me. Try it, you might like it

Is the saddle height correct for pedaling? That looks like a DJ/FR bike.

Neat bike. Where did you find a NOS 2002 frame?

These pics were the day I bolted on the last parts. Since then I've put a longer stem on, raised the seat, and installed the Vredestein tires. My goal with this was to build a hybrid bike. I've been working 6-12's since I built it so I've only ridden 3 times but I can tell you the DJ/Slalom frame geo is great for ripping up the trails. The trade off is getting up hills gets trick with the low leverage ability on the handlebars but I can go anywhere I need. The fun happens in hopping over trees, kicking the bike sideways on jumps, basically DJ in the woods. Those Vredestein tires are impressive as I've already rimmed them several times with no air loss/snake bites. The saddle is kinda funky but it works for me.

I found this frame last year from a shop in Charlotte that had it NOS in their attic. I paid dearly for it but it's worth it to me.

Leaving Charlotte tomorrow for Oregon. Glad to be done here so I can ride it more.
