    BMW branded bike

This bike is available at a local pawn shop. Very rough condition. Wondering what year it was offered for sale.

Also, wondering if a bike like this can be converted to a 29er?

The frame appears solid. $300 asking price.

No it can't be converted to a 29er
I used to ride to Win ... Now I ride to Grin

While my guitar gently weeps, my bike sits there mocking me

Figures. Thanks. Maybe I can upgrade and let my bride use it. She loves sh*t with BMW logos.

Sure it can be converted to a 29er. Just ask Nick_Knipp about his Jeep build.

The front suspension is an anti brake-dive design, it's a classic and should be in a design museum really.

When I first saw it I thought it was an amazing piece of industrial art. Need to know what year it was produced. Is it worth $300?

I weighed that bike, when I used to work for a BMW $tealership - it was an Anvil-heavy, 35 pounds. Their "claimed" weight of 28.4lbs is an outright, Teutonic Weight Weenie lie, and marketing hype. It also rode like shiite, due to the bendy, folding frame, weak coil springs and that squishy front suspension has tons of pedaling bob. Steering is extremely slack and would kill anybody on climbs. When this was introduced in 2000 - this bike was "considered" to have cutting-edge, MTB technology, which was what BMW wanted us salesmen to push to the buying public. I did not believe in it from day one....and quietly told people who wanted high-performance Mountain Bikes, to visit their neighborhood Trek, Cannondale and Specialized dealers.

At the $tealership - the bike on display got lots of bug-eyed attention, but once they saw the $4000 MSRP....they did an about-face and drove away in their M3 instead. I think in our region of seven BMW stores - we only sold ONE...to Larry Ellison(Oracle CEO).

Volkswagen makes a "mountain bike" also. It is really just a KMart bike with VW logos :P. Too bad that BMW bike looks as bad as the last generation BMX X3, 3 series, X5, current 5GT and the X6.
