Hey guys,
didnt know where to put this thread but decided here was the best I could do. I need a diagram or a video of a do-it-yourself bike repair stand. I'm sick of flipping my bike upside down. Not bad for changing tubes but it is for adjusting derailleurs. Any ideas?
You can get bench mount stands for $50 on ebay. They're all plastic, kinda suck, but they DO work. Thats probably not much more than materials would cost for a full DIY.
I saw a vid on youtube on a bike stand. I modified it a bit to hang from the ceiling. I used a 3/8" floor flange, 2" nipple, 3/8"-1/2" enlargement bushing, 1/2" street elbow, 60" 1/2" pipe, 1/2" elbow, then a 12" 1/2" with a pipe clamp thing hooked on it. I set my bike up on it, screw the clamp on the frame(it has pads), and get to work! Now I feel stupid cause I answered my own question. Aaahhhh!! Lol
Hell, you could make a crude one out of 2x4s and deck screws if you wanted lol. I made a free standing wall mount like that for two bikes until the wood warped and it started to lean over.
I had an old POS weightlifting bench that had to be upgraded, it ended up sitting under the stairs. I finally found a use for it, as well as my pvc bike rack, this thing makes an excellent bike stand. Worked well for me, I'm sure I'll improve it from this.

Wow you guys have a really complicated image upload system here.
Making DIY repair stands are great (there are many threads about them in the Tooltime forum), but if you plan on doing your own repairs, a quality repair stand is the best thing you can buy for yourself. Park makes good bench mount stands as well as portable, folding repair stands. Also check into Feedback Sports repair stands.
Price Point has sette brand bench and wall mount stands for around $50 or a full stand for $99. I have the $99 one, it works great. Maybe not as pretty as a park or feedback but excellent for the $.
