Are you willing to spend over $130 on this?

It depends on your frame, but I would lean toward this if one of the configurations will work.

Fire off an email to KHS and ask them. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you. You could give King a holler too.

If you find it hard to stomach paying $140 for a headset, look at the Cane Creek 40 series. Depending on what you need, you are looking at between $40-65.

do you get the lower bearing with it too, as standard when you get any new headset? as in the lower bearing that goes at the bottom of the steerer tube?

Well, he did ask for the 'best' internal headset. I suppose best is subjective and up for debate.

True, that is what he asked for. I just wanted to make sure he knew what he was getting himself into.

I figured if cost were no object he would not be riding that KHS

    Hey, his bike's not bad...

and this could be the beginning of a slippery slope of upgrades for him. It's what makes us all tick. That King headset would be just fine on your bike Mischieff!

I agree, his bike is fine. So is the CC 40. And it would leave him with $75-$100 to spend on something that will actually make a difference.

Not really, the 110 and CK are about equally frivolous

I have a Cane Creek 110 on one of my bikes and build many others with 40 series. I'll probably never buy a 110 again. The 40 series is plenty nice.

I had like the lowest grade cane creek, non sealed, loose ball/ball ring, non stainless, alu races headset for over 4 years, rode it daily in rain for the most part. I tore it down like twice a year (but it wasn't really needed) and cleaned it and repacked it. These things last forever. However isn't some essential parts of the 40 series made out of plastic? or is the lowest grades ones that have plastic now? I would steer clear of plastic.

But the 40 series doesn't come in pretty colors.

That said, I'm running CC 110 on three different frames. Why? Because I wanted my headset in red.

I wanted a green one and they weren't able to help me which I thought was kinda funny because that tapered ring that goes against the steerer is green ano.
My 110 is black, so it may as well be a 40.
