New question here. 6x6 shootout in BIKE mag

Anybody got or seen this issue of BIKE magazine? [not sure if May or June]

I'm interested to know which 6" travel bikes they tested...

I have it, but it isnt a comparison test or anything, there are 6 bikes and several different people submitting a review of each bike.

All of them were liked, of course...

    Fisher Fat Possim (3960)
    Norco Six-2 (1795)
    RM Slayer 50 (2800)
    Scott Ransom LTD (6825)
    Trek Remedy 66 (3630)
    Turner RFX (2000 Frame only)

    (XXX) numbers are prices

    Typical

Just another U.S.mag showing how spineless they are. I bought it and it's the first rag I've bought in a while and the last for the duration. Not only was it not a comparison (which is what we all would like to see) none of the bikes were even mentioned outside of there specific test and there was no rating scale however vague. Bike has some great photography and a rare artical worth reading but the tests are just mini ads that don't even have full specs; no standover measurements hit or miss test to test on which angles to share with us and inconsistant opinions on what slack means(68 stable and mulish at slow speeds on the Turner but a quick handling long legged XC bike on the Scott?????? The brits did it correctly with 5" bikes a while back and I'm waiting for them to do a 6" test before I buy another mag.

I agree, many "comparisons" or "reviews" in magazines should be read with a grain of salt -- the magazines often have financial interests in these companies in terms of advertising contracts. Going off topic, this is one reason why many people prefer a non-biased comparison/review organization such as Consumer Reports (CR). When I was shopping for an air purifier I almost got blindsided by some fancy advertising... fortunately I came upon CR and realized that I was an idiot.

Anyways, take what you read with a grain of salt, and definitely seek advice from MTBR riders before dropping a load of cash money!

I only look at US magazines for the pictures, very good photography but their writing is useless. Well dirt rag is usually a descent read. The Brits do a much better job at writing as you've said. I usually get most of my feed back from this site or people i ride with.

    British Titles?

I agree that most of the domestic bike mags seem to "like" all the bikes they test and / or don't usually put them 'head to head' in comparison / contrasting settings... I am sure it has to do with the $ spent in advertising... deals with the devil, no matter how you slice it, as somebody else said above!

What are some of the titles of the British mags?

Are they available online (and if so, can someone provide their URL's?)

Are they typically available in North America on the news stands?

    Thanks!
    Dean

    http://www.whatmtb.com/ (more XC/trail material)

http://www.mbuk.com/ (more DH/FR/DJ/Trials material) The guys (and gals) here have a sense of humor that I can live with. Some might feel differently. I heard this might have a different name in USA???
