600 to spend 2002 Stumpjumper M4 Comp or new hardtail

Looking for opinions or advice...

Toss up between a 2002 Stumpjumper M4 comp that is in great condition from what I have been told. Other option is to pick up a new hardtail for a similar price....

The Stumpy M4 is a pretty nicely spec'd bike. Very good drive train components, a Fox fork, very good rim brakes. Depending on the condition of the bike, I'd take it over anything else you'd spend $600 on in a new bike.

I second the used stumpy. As long as there are no dents or cracks and all the parts work.
