Been looking at a few different moutian biking shoes. In regular shoes I can wear a 8 or a 8 1/2. Some of the shoes I have tried is a eruo 41 and 42 size, but some companys have a 41 as a 7 1/2 not a 8 like other compnays. I wounder why........ Like I said I wear a 8 or 8 1/2. different ones fit different. But I would like to order shoes online cause they are alot cheaoer than in my LBS. Shoe wise I am looking at the Sette Enduro or 661 Tiburon 3 Shoe.
what to do: find the shoe you want at your LBS or sports store, ensure it's the right size, then order from the mail oder store. I know that's not nice for the LBS, but it's all you can do.
Or, take the pricing from the web to your LBS and ask them to try to lower their price for you, then buy from them.

from wikipedia:
Traditional shoe sizes by country
Warning: Most of the shoe-size systems listed in this section are not formally standardized. The exact relationship between a labelled shoe size and the interval of foot lengths for which that shoe is suitable can vary substantially between different manufacturers. The following descriptions may only approximate the exact sizing systems used by individual manufacturers. One source of discrepancy occurs when a shoe manufactured according to one shoe-size system is labelled in another system.
shoe sizing is crazy, i see no reason why there cant be a standardized sizing system. i have several pairs of shoes that are all US size 9 but some of the shoes are euro sized 42, 42.5, and 43. makes no sense.
i bought my bikes shoes and my last probably half dozen pair of regular shoes online and havent had any fit problems. if you buy online make sure to look into the companies return policies, some will not charge you extra shipping if you need to exchange your shoes for a different size.

Because every shoe is a different shape. This goes for any type of shoe.
The "size" is the "stick length," the straight line distance from the tip of the toe to the back of the heel. The problem is that the bottom of (the inside of) shoes are not flat. The are curved to make it easier to walk, for the amount of heel lift and other factors. The amount of this curve is different for different brands and models. This curve also makes a shoe fit longer for the same stick length than a flatter shoe.
The other thing you may be seeing is one company may be converting the Euro to British size and another to US. US and UK sizing is about 1/2 size different.
