1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Just got a one 9 and need new wheel set. What's the best and lightest for a $300 budget?

    What's a "one 9?"

I've done well with bicyclewheelwarehouse.com, although I think they're not as good with weird axles.

Do you have the whole bike? What kind of axles does it have?

The name implies a weird drivetrain. Is it a singlespeed or something?

Hard to do for a few hundred.

Your big problem is that when wheels are cheap, it's because there's fair demand for a wheel with those specs, and the manufacturers are knocking out a ton of them.

MTB has blown up the standards lately. For a while there, everybody was riding about the same thing: 26" rims laced to disc brake hubs with QR axles. So there are a ton of wheelsets that fit that, and they can be pretty cheap.

Long-winded way of saying I don't know a good source for you. Start by figuring out what you need, anyway. 29" rims, obviously, but what are you doing about the freehub? And what axles do you need? Most likely, there are at least a couple sets out there to fit that, though maybe not for $400. At worst, you could be looking at building a set from parts, which gets expensive.

CRC had some decent deals with a 10% off coupon last time I checked...but I wasn't really looking for wheels so I cant make any suggestions.

Its kind of hard to decipher the OP's posts but I'm guessing he doesn't have wheels yet?
