1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.
mtn. biking 101
2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    What's the fastest color seat?

Which color is the fastest one for a bike seat?

I figure black is heavy, so would "mother of pearl" be quicker?

Red is most certainly the fastest. Pass by a 1000 kg bull - and record speed is guaranteed.

Faster yet is the invisible seat, but quite espensive. I have a 2007 one Id be willing to let go for a good price, seams are a little frayed but youll never notice!

    Hey!

Somebody once told me about an "invisible" seat!

I'm not falling for that trick again!

I have my name in nail polish on the side.

On the back, I have "SS".

You need to put a 'Type-R' sticker on there to make it really fast.

Nail polish over a real sticker isn't quite as fast, but it's better than nothing.

    Right! Right! Right!
Because "r" alwasys comes before "s"!
    Great tip!
Also, because of the raised nature of the nail polish when it dries, a sticker would be more aerodynamically advantageous!
    See?
    That's why I come here!

    Hi Eric,

But doesn't yellow paint weigh more than red paint?

Color doesn't matter as long as it is a "fully RIGID", 29er, Specialized seat....

Nobody will even see the seat when your a$$ is squishing over the sides of it............= )

That being said I'd have to vote for a white seat with cool grey stripes somewhere on it.

My buddy has a red carbon fiber seat that looks pretty fast though.
Look, whatever happens, don't fight the mountain.

    NO NO NO

Without a doubt the fastest seat is the Selle Italia Troy Lee Edition SLR with the Phobia graphics.

How much more weight to the stripes add to the seat?

Do you have any specs for it?

Like 0-60 or 1/4 mile times?

... and if we just ...

Seat with flamethrower on the back is fastest. If you go too slow, you get burned

    None

To go faster than record speeds you must have no seat at all. That also takes care of the color problem. Zen has been reached.
