1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! URGENT HELP!! Cannnondale Trail 5 or Trek 4300

    Hello,
I am from India. I am around 6'1". I am getting a deal on Cannondale Trial 5 (Comes with Disc) 2011 and Trek 4300 (No Disc) 2011 almost around the same price! Can some one tell which is the best out of two?

Also a word about sizing? Cannondale L or XL and Trek 21" or someother?
Previously i am riding a bTwin RockRider 5.1 an entry level mtb so looking for an upgrade!

They both come with 26" wheels!

I would tend to think the L would fit you better than the XL. 21" is also very likely a bit big for you. (What's your inseam?) Most in your height range would be on a 19 or 20".

My inseam is 35.5"/90cm. Both have 26" wheels. The cannondale 2013 trail 5 geometry shows L corresponding to 18.7"

Long torso probably puts you on an XL but you need to test them.

The torso is not the inseam. Inseam equals leg. 35.5" inseam means a short torso and a L would be a stronger option. See if you can find a deal on a 29er.

35.5 inseam isn't all that long in a tall person, ask me how I know this. that's why I suggested test rides, you can't fit a bike over the internet no matter how good you think you are.

I have only two options to go with
    Cannondale Trail 5 2011 [Comes with DISC] = L Size [L Size implies 19"-21" here / 20" here / 20" in evans ]
    Trek 4300 [No Disc] = 21"

Which will suit me? Which is more VFM? Both are same cost!

Bikes within a price range are very much alike ,if you can test ride them get the one that fits best.
