suggestions on a STRONG wheelset under 500?

I need something strong thats gonna last on rough downhill.
I'm 200 lbs. Bike is a hardtail with 27.5 wheels.
I've been looking at the mavic crossroc wts but it's a little out of my price range. Anyone know where i can get a good deal on the crossrocs? or is there anything else i should consider within myh price range?

At 200lbs, I probably would probably look for other wheels first. . . . .

What axle types/sizes are you running?

I'm a newb so I'm not positive. But I believe it's 9mm quick release. What would you suggest?

I think the problem in lack of replies is the pricepoint. I think you'd be safe with an AM wheel, assuming you're not hardcore DH all the time.

The only ones I could recommend are well above $300 tho.

Didnt check if you can find them somewhere else cheaper, the German webstores are always good to check out for Shimano bargains.

I really wouldn't recommend a 24h XC wheelset for "rough downhill" use. I would look into a good 32h AM wheelset, either new or used, whichever fits your budget. A lot of good wheels are outside your budget, though.

You may want to double check your axle sizes. 27.5" are such a new size that I haven't seen many with a 9mm front axles and are usually 15 or 20mm. Any downhill specific wheel sets in that size will more than likely come in a 142x12 rear axle as well.

Thanks for the replies. I'm a new so I'm not exactly sure what axles I have. Can't I change the axles with whatever wheels I get? I'm definitely leaning towards the AM wheels. If I upped my budget to 500 what could I afford?

What make/model of bike do you have? Or take pics of your current axles, and then we can help with what axle types you need to look for.
