1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Same thing happened to my fork (I also have the Recon Silver, BTW). The dust cover on the left tube, which contains the air spring, popped off. Opened it up to do a rebuild and found that a small metal spring (resembling a thin, wavy washer) on the air spring assembly had broken. My guess is that the broken spring allowed air to leak into a part of the fork that is not normally pressurized, which popped the seal off.

Ended up having to replace the whole air spring assembly because Rockshox doesn't sell that piece separately. I also noticed that the air spring seems to have been redesigned, the new unit didn't have the part that broke on mine.

So, I'd say that it's time for at least a rebuild, and probably the air spring needs to be replaced.

Speed solves all problems, except for those things it makes worse.
