    You might see if there are reviews of it on this site. That's actually the main thing the site is for, and I'd be really surprised if nobody has reviewed the Talus.

    according to Raleigh's website, it could well be a big-box-bike...

    * 26"
    * 7 speed
    * Suntour fork
    * V brakes

    pretty much as much an entry-level "mtn" bike spec you could come up with. It will not do well off road unless we are talking smoother hard pack trails...if used as a city/commuter/hybrid it would probably fare okay. Unless you are stealing it, I would research a bit more and I would wager you can get alot more bike that will last longer and be more fun to ride...your budget was what?

    it may work fine for you then...300 lbs is not going to get you to a much higher spec...and I personally would rather have a decent V brake set-up over a cheap-ass disc brake bike...the only other option, and it maybe the best one, is used!

    $300 is tight budget especially if you plan on riding actual mountain bike trails.
    If you are in Parowan UT, I imagine there are some pretty decent ones too seeing as you are surrounded by state and national parks.

    That being said it is better to be on a low end bike than no bike at all.

    Just don't over think it too much because in that price range there isn't a whole lot of difference in the bikes. Also don't forget to save money for a helmet. You will probably also want to get some padded shorts and gloves which will all run you about $100 more if you shop prices.
    Just stick it in granny and start grinding.
