1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    question about my fork

    sorry another question for today.

i have a 2001 marzocchi bomber z5 air. the air leaks out.

    Tenneco Marzocchi Suspension - 2001 forks - Z5

i know it needs to be rebuilt. is it a good fork to rebuild or should i toss it.

i did just buy a rock shock xc tk 28.

which would be better for my daily bike ? and which should go to my loaner bike ?

    thanks in advance.

Don't bin the fork, it'll only cost you a bit over $20 to fix it.

    Service Manual: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id12.html

Ride it when it's fixed and see how it compares to the Dart.

Should be easy to fix. I love the Marzocchis of that time, though I have not used the Z5.

You can check the o ring seal under the air valve fill cap and get something from a good hardware store with o ring drawers as a replacement if it is showing deterioration. The valve core is also a seal so check it with soapy water. Tire stores have them laying around the tire machine. Use the correct size socket to remove and replace the fill cap.

    Re: question about my fork

I recommend fixing it as well. I ride a z1 from 98 and I love it. I am not a fool though. I know that eventually it will give up the ghost so I'm saving for a nice new fork while the z1 serves me well. Check out marzocchis site. You will find the full diagrams for breakdown and repair.
