1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Price Check on 2011 Gary Fisher Rumblefish II

    Hi guys,

Looking to graduate from my first bike (2012 Trek Marlin) to a FS. A guy at a LBS is selling his 2011 Gary Fisher Rumblefish II for $1,300.

Is this a good price? Going by the original retail value, it looks good, but there's something to be said about buying a 3 year old mountain bike. On the flip side, the guy says he rides it pretty casually and likely has kept it in immaculate shape considering he works in a LBS.

Any insights would be great! Thanks

    this bike? Rumblefish II

Bicycle Blue Book values it at
    $1,840 (Like-New)
    $1,753 (Excellent)
    $1,577 (Good)
    $1,174 (Fair)

great bike! good deal, assuming the suspension parts are in good shape. I think you can still buy the rebuild kits for the frame pivots as well. might be a good idea to order all those bushings and stuff in case they become scarce.

I didn't know about the bicycle blue book that's a huge help. Now just to do the due diligence to make sure everything is in good shape.
