1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

I gps'ed a ride the other day but can't figure out how to post the map online. Is there an easy way to do it?

    Thanks.

Load it into Strava. Load it into Google Earth.

First be sure it's okay to post publicly.
Not every trail is meant to be shared on the internet. I know mine aren't.

What are you using for GPS?
People using phones often upload their tracks to web services that go with the tracking App. People using Garmin seem to often use Garmin Connect. I'm sure there are others.

Thanks for the info so far.

I used Runkeeper because that was the only app I had on my phone. I will research to see if there's a better app.

And the trails are run by the state I believe so no issues with posting my route.

I went to runkeeper and found out how to export the file. Just not sure how to get it into a post here on the forums. I tried to upload to photobucket but it obviously doesn't understand the format.

You can do a screenshot of it and then upload it to photobucket just like any photo.

I use STRAVA on my Android and it works great. All I do is log into Strava and cpy and paste the link into here. i'm not sure if that's what you are looking for.

I haven's tracked any rides for a while (ancient phone with ancient battery) - but previously, Sportstracker ( Sports Tracker )worked OK for me. Easy to post links to tracks too, as long as I had the track set as public, and not private.
