1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.

2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

    Ordered some Heli Tape

After doing some searching for down tube protection here on the forums, I ordered some Helicopter tape for my 2012 Trek/GF Mamba.

My order came in last night and I've got to say this tape is the cats meow. I ordered the 1"x30' roll. I taped the down tube with a 3" wide path and taped the bottom bracket. It's hardly noticable and since it's 14mil thick, it's extremely tough.

Just a heads up for those looking for something similar to keep their ride looking good.

If you don't mind, where did you get it? I have a Niner Air 9 and while I love the bike, the paint seems to be kind of delicate. Other bike is anodized so I don't worry about that one.

lol, what makes this helicopter tape?
i'm sure it works good, but basically it's just a thick protective clear sticker, eh?

i fly model heli's (as well as prop planes and of course jets) so the title of this thread caught my eye.

I was actually referring to helicopter tape, which is far different and a lot better.

Used on the leading edge of helicopter blades. Google is your friend.

I ordered the outdoor grade, 14 mill thick. Very heavy duty stuff and virtually impossible to tear by hand. Should offer great protection.

So let me get this straight, it protects your bike like the lizard skin, but clear? huh, may look into this more.
