1. The most important thing about buying a new bike is to make sure it fits. The only way you'll know if the bike is right for you is to size up the bike and make sure that the bike's geometry matches your body's geometry. Ask questions and do some research.
mtn. biking 101
2. If possible, try to find a shop that will let you demo the bike on real dirt. Five minutes in a parking lot won't cut it. You wouldn't buy a car without a real world test drive, and a bike should be no different.
3. Don't belive the hype. Just because your favorite rider or best friend rides a certain bike, that doesn't mean that's the best one for you. Have an open mind and be realistic about your needs and ability.

Okay boys i need your help...Urgent

I have to make a decision between 2 bikes, both giant yukon.

    1) 2007 giant yukon for $250
    2) 2009 giant yukon for $500

Both are in good condition. Heres are some pics. The first one is 2007 and the 2nd one is 2009. Which one is the best for the price. Both fit me well. Thanks

I think the 2009 Yukon might have a little bit better components on it, and is a little bit newer. But not sure really cause 500 seems like a lot to me I would try to talk them down a little bit. Also might want to schedule a ride for both of them, to see which is a better fit and feels better. Then go from there......good luck

I would pass on both, or at least see if you can talk the sellers down. The asking prices of both bikes are about double what they are actually worth.

Dont think about the 1st one , the second one there is miles better, see if you can get it for 400-450, but even if you cant still get the 09 model, it is the only one out of the two imo, cheers

Per Bikepedia, the 2009 was a $920 bike in 2009. So, its 3 years old. I bought a 2011 Yukon used in early 2012 from someone who bought it and decided MTB wasn't for them. Per Bikepedia $940 bike. It was in pristine condition! I paid $650 and he threw in stuff like shock pump, bar ends, gloves, etc. I didn't really need those items, but he was emptying his garage of "all things MTB". So, you can see that 1 year took $300 off the price of a pristine bike. Follow that logic and I think you could get it for
less than $450. Its 2 years older and its not pristine.

Furthermore, I think that the FS Yukon pictured above is a 2008.

Trust me mate, dont get that 07 model over the 09 model you will regret it big time, dont even think about it...
If you have to pay the extra 50 or 100 on the 09 model, just do it n see if the seller will throw in a pump or anything, if not show him the 450 cash in your hand n he will prob take it, cheers

how many miles on the 2009? where did he put the miles on it? hard riding or more casual? low mile on casual rides probably warrants a few more dollars than the other end of the spectrum.

For that range you can get a niec hardtail, or a meh full susp used. I'd aim for a $600-700 used hardtail. I regularly see them with fox forks.

if you really want full suspension, spend a little more and look for something like this

Both bikes are sold! Didnt get the chance to make a decision. I was leaning towards the FS. Oh well, theres many options.

Im looking at a 2007 giant iguana, the seller wants $500. However, the back spoke and chain needs to be replaced. What do you guys think?

    Thanks

spokes are no big deal normal wear.
get them all checked if you buy it.
chain is no big deal either.
the casette or front chain rings may be very worn too so inspect them carefully.

i couldnt find a 2007 iguana. But a 2004 is $600 (all info found on bikepedia). How much do you think a 2007 iguana is worth that needs it bike spoke fixed and chain fixed?

    Thanks

2006 is the last year that they made the bike.

BikePedia - 2006 Giant Iguana Complete Bicycle

The seller probably bought the previous year's model in 2007.

The MSRP was $600, six years ago. Even if the bike was in nearly new condition I wouldn't offer more than $300 for it, one that needs repairs (indicating that it was ridden a fair amount), even less.

For $200 more go for the newer bike, yo'll forget about the $200 after a couple of months and not regret it.

450 is good price for me. i paid about 350 for a 2006 hardtail Giant yukon, im glad i did to because i love it.

if i had 450 and that bike was listed in my area, i'd already bought it by now
